A number of years ago we—Karen Kindrick, Cynthy Black, Deena Ortiz, and I—planned a year for our children based upon the idea that America was founded on the principle that God inspired the Founding Fathers to lay the foundation of freedom in the America. After we put that year together, we felt so strongly that we couldn’t keep it to ourselves—we had to share it with other families. We published this year as the book, "A Noble Birthright: Defenders of the Title of Liberty." It is an entire year, (and more) in which children can learn and live the adventure of the founding of America, from Jamestown to the Constitution. Although anyone could use this book, (school teachers have even bought it for their classrooms), several principles are derived from the Bible, Book of Mormon and modern prophets to show how America was established by the hand of God.

The book includes:

  • 48 pages of the year overview, questions and answers, and explanations of brain-compatible elements and how to utilize those in any learning situation.
  • 47 pages of Revolutionary Resources! — poems, songs, maps, book lists, etc. (We searched for resources so you don’t have to.)
  • 219 pages of the actual year adventure divided into five components in which six heroes are introduced: Captain Moroni, Abigail Adams, Ben Franklin, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, and James Madison.

Karen Kindrick, Jeanne Bradley, Cynthia Black and Deena Ortiz put this together in 1994, and lived this year with our own children ages 2 years through high school. We still use this book as a resource for great quotes and facts, and we especially like to use it in Family Home Evening for patriotic holidays.
